Canada is a Better Place than the USA to Immigrate to: Here’s Why

Immigrate to Canada

A few recreational visits to the two major parts of North America may give you a rough idea of what life there might be like. But between holidaying in a place and calling that place home, there is a multitude of nuances that come into play. Things like the outlook and lifestyle of the common folk or the daily cost of living play a major part in forming one’s judgment.

All this might seem overwhelming to someone who is already in a conundrum about which country to choose for settling in. Canada is generally spoken about highly in terms of a good place to call home. But don’t let hearsay strong-arm you into taking a decision. Let’s try to put everything in perspective, instead, by listing things about Canada that give weight to the argument that this nation is virtually perfect in comparison with the USA.

A Livable Community

Canada may have a smaller population and fewer communities in number compared to the USA, but when it comes to livability, Canada’s cities rank higher than the latter’s based on multiple international surveys. Vancouver and Toronto come up every year in the top ten of the Global Livability Ranking done by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Factors like quality of living and, how pleasant newcomers feel in a particular city, affect this ranking.

Average Students’ IQ

As per the Program of International Student Assessment, a global survey that assesses the math, reading and logical reasoning abilities of students in 44 countries, Canadian 15 year-olds are smarter than American 15 year-olds. An environment that breeds intelligence is what your child requires to grow as a wholesome, high-achieving individual.

Healthcare

Obamacare was a successful endeavor at one time but now that it has been scrapped, the Canadian healthcare system has come back on the scene as a more comprehensive and beneficial one. The Commonwealth Fund’s recent index of 11 countries places the USA dead last while Canada remains consistently at higher ranks.

Maternity & Paternity Leave

There is nothing like the joy of bringing a child into this world and doing that in Canada just adds to the bliss. Canadian employers are instructed by the government to offer maternity leave to both parents ranging from 17 weeks to as much as 52 weeks. During this period one of the parents can also apply for Employment Insurance which is a non-existent scenario in the USA. There is no mandate in terms of maternity leave in the USA but on an average, they do provide with up to 15 weeks of paid leave.

International & Intra-national Reputation

An international survey in 2013 stacked Canada at the top for international reputation based on opinions from 270,000 people from across the world while the USA doesn’t even make the cut. The OECD’s(Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) life satisfaction index observes that Canada scores a 7.6 pointer on a scale of 1 to 10. This index takes into account a survey of Canadian nationals and permanent residents who have nothing but the highest praise for the Great White North.

Safety

An OECD report suggests that 76 percent of Canadians feel safe venturing outside at night which is considerably higher than the average of 69 percent. A measly 1.31 percent report having been assaulted compared to a 1.7 percent in the USA which is not much of a departure. Here, the reputation factor also comes into the picture; Canada projects an image that consists of a low crime rate and generally a warm cultural climate.

Ethno-cultural Diversity & Acceptance

Lastly, it is a widely accepted fact that Canadian bonhomie towards new cultures and ethnicities from parts unknown is it’s number one selling point. With President Trudeau’s extremely liberal stance on immigration is an additional uplift to this factor, as many immigration laws have been augmented so as to accommodate the maximal influx of people from all over the world. Whereas POTUS Trump’s stringent stance against even allowing their Southern neighbors into the country makes them look like a totalitarian cold mess.

These factors and others may have given you the big picture and you may have developed a hankering for Canada, what with the admittedly Canada-leaning stand that this blog has taken. So pack your bags and put in your proposal today to move to a nation with a big heart and to live the best version of a good life.
