Overview of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)
The AAIP facilitates the nomination of skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and business investors who wish to settle in Alberta. Eligible candidates must either possess in-demand skills or plan to establish a business in the province. A nomination under this program allows candidates to apply for permanent residency along with their families.
AAIP Streams
For Skilled Workers
- Tourism and Hospitality Stream
- Alberta Opportunity Stream (Paused)
- Alberta Express Entry Stream
- Rural Renewal Stream
For Entrepreneurs
- Rural Entrepreneur Stream
- Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
- Farm Stream
- Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
Each stream has specific requirements based on work experience, education, and employment offers. Candidates must check their eligibility, apply through the AAIP portal, and receive a provincial nomination before applying for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Enhanced vs. Base Streams in Alberta PNP
Alberta’s immigration pathways are divided into two categories:
Enhanced Streams: These are linked to Canada’s Express Entry system, allowing candidates with a competitive Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and a demonstrated interest in Alberta to receive a Notification of Interest (NOI). The Alberta Express Entry Stream falls under this category.
Base Streams: These do not rely on Express Entry. Candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the AAIP portal. If selected, they receive a nomination, which can significantly boost their chances of obtaining permanent residency.
Alberta’s provincial nomination program remains a promising pathway for skilled workers and entrepreneurs looking to establish their future in Canada. With continued draws targeting key sectors, eligible candidates have ample opportunities to secure permanent residency in one of Canada’s most economically vibrant provinces.
