Immigration Announcement
According to Justin Trudeau, Canada’s immigration policies are advantageous to the tech sector
The Canadian government has long taken steps to ensure that the country’s tech sector is able to harness the best available international and domestic talent. This helps the country to move a few steps forward in the right direction. According to Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, it also gives a unique advantage in the global economy.
The 2019 Collision Conference, which was held in Toronto on May 20, began with an interview of Trudeau. This was also the first time that this five-year-old gathering of global tech leaders was held outside the United States of America, making it a landmark event. The organizers chose Toronto as the venue as opposed to other North American cities because they felt that Canada’s status as a global tech hub would do more justice to the event. Canada is well on its way to overtake Silicon Valley when it comes to jobs growth.
In his interview with Shahrzad Rafati, who also happens to be the founder and CEO of Broadband TV, Trudeau said that he feels Canada should stay open to international talent. He pointed out the numerous helpful immigration policies that have been introduced in the country. Canada’s rising immigration levels is a testament to the country’s appreciation for foreign talent. The government has also created the Global Skills Strategy, which will allow employers to obtain work visas within just two weeks for non-Canadian workers in specific occupations.
Trudeau pointed out that we are living in an era where major countries are restricting their immigration policies. That is one of the major reasons why Canada needs to stay open and attract the best and brightest talent from all around the world. He also wants to focus on developing Canada’s education system so that Canadians have access to their fair share of opportunities.
