The film industry in Canada is recovering from coronavirus

The number of coronavirus cases in Canada has been steadily declining in the last few months. This downward trend has allowed the different industries in Canada to open up slowly but steadily. While the United States is still struggling to restart operations because of the high number of coronavirus cases, Canada has already introduced protocols that will let film and television projects resume from where they left off.

Struggles of the pandemic:

The Canadian film and television industry suffered because of the pandemic. It had to accommodate the numerous postponements and cancellations of productions, filming, and festivals because of travel restrictions and social distancing rules.

However, the tide is turning, and the industry is slowly getting back on its feet. After having battled the long shutdowns and the weakening economy, the industry is now in a better position. They have been resilient and strong through the process, which gave them an advantage.

Role of the industry in Canada:

Canada has started introducing measures all over the country that will support technical personnel and artists who are working in the industry. Recovery might take some time, but there is no doubt that the television and film industry is more than ready to take on the challenge.

Since TV and film contribute majorly to the Canadian economy, it is of utmost importance that they are given adequate assistance. The Motion Picture Association of Canada found that over 180,900 people worked in this industry in 2019. Together, television and film productions created $12.8 billion for the economy.

Many Canadian provinces like British Columbia and Ontario have already announced that they are in the final stages of reopening. They have given the green signal for filming to resume or will do so very soon. The provinces are also looking into authorizing more public events and g theatre reopenings in the near future.
