Canada Invites Over 3000 Young Workers

The International Experience Canada open work permit program has had a remarkable two weeks. Between May 23 and June 5, 2026, IRCC held multiple draws under the IEC program and extended invitations to 3,179 young foreign nationals.

If you are between the ages of 18 and 35 and dreaming of working and exploring Canada, the IEC is one of the most accessible and exciting paths available. And right now, the program is running at full pace.

What is the IEC Program?

International Experience Canada is a federal program that allows young people from eligible countries to live and work in Canada on a temporary basis. Depending on your country and stream, you can apply as a Working Holiday participant, a Young Professional, or through an International Co-op arrangement.

The Working Holiday stream is the most popular and well-known. It gives young people the freedom to travel and work for almost any employer in Canada for up to two years. It is a chance to experience Canadian culture, build work experience, and in many cases, discover a long-term path to immigration.

Canada runs these draws regularly throughout the year. The number of invitations per country varies based on bilateral agreements and annual quotas.

The Latest IEC Draws at a Glance

In the two-week period ending June 5, 2026, Canada issued 3,179 Invitations to Apply across more than 30 participating countries. Some of the largest national allocations in this round included 656 for Australia, 557 for Korea, 450 for the United Kingdom, 377 for France, 254 for Germany, 177 for Italy, and 124 for New Zealand. Ireland received 114 invitations and Taiwan received 45.

Countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America were all represented, reflecting just how truly international this program has become. Even smaller participating nations like Estonia, Latvia, Luxembourg, and Costa Rica had candidates receiving invitations in this round.

By June 5, a total of 76,571 IEC candidates had been invited in 2026. That is a substantial number, and it reflects the consistent, ongoing demand for young international talent across Canada’s labour market.

What the United Kingdom Numbers Show?

The United Kingdom Working Holiday category offers an especially useful window into how the IEC quota system works. The UK quota for 2026 is set at 9,330. The first round of invitations opened in the week of January 19, and as of June 5, Canada had already issued 13,836 invitations to UK candidates, which exceeds the original quota.

How is that possible? The IEC system accounts for candidates who decline invitations, let them expire, or who have permit applications refused. When that happens, Canada issues a small number of additional invitations to ensure the quota is effectively filled. This is a detail worth understanding if you are in any IEC pool, because it means that even after a final round is announced, a small number of additional opportunities may still emerge.

How the IEC Pool and Draw System Works?

To receive an IEC invitation, you first need to register in the pool for your country and stream. Once in the pool, you wait for a draw round. Draws happen at different intervals, sometimes weekly, sometimes bi-weekly, depending on the stream and country.

Being in the pool does not guarantee an invitation in any given round. The order in which candidates are selected depends on various factors. The most important thing you can do while waiting is to keep your profile active, accurate, and up to date.

As of June 5, 2026, there were 33,227 candidates registered and waiting in the pool. New draws will continue throughout the 2026 season, and each round is an opportunity.

Why the IEC is More Than Just a Work Permit?

The International Experience Canada open work permit is often the beginning of a deeper relationship with Canada. Many young people who arrive through the Working Holiday stream or Young Professionals pathway go on to find employers, gain Canadian work experience, and ultimately transition to permanent residence through programs like the Canadian Experience Class.

It is also worth noting the economic contribution IEC participants make. These young workers fill seasonal and service sector roles that are often difficult for Canadian employers to staff otherwise. Their presence helps industries like hospitality, agriculture, tourism, and retail stay operational, especially during high-demand seasons.

What You Should Do Right Now

If you are from an IEC-eligible country and have not yet registered in the pool, the process begins on the IRCC website. You will need to confirm your eligibility, create an online account, and submit your registration.

If you are already registered and waiting, stay patient but stay informed. Canada Immigration News publishes draw results as soon as they are released. Knowing the numbers for each round helps you understand where the program is headed and when to expect your invitation.

With over 3,000 invitations issued in just two weeks and more than 76,000 young workers invited in 2026, the IEC program is one of Canada’s most active and welcoming gateways for young global talent.

Whether you are from Australia, Korea, France, or any other participating nation, Canada is open and ready. Follow Canada Immigration News for every IEC draw update, eligibility guide, and insider tip that brings you one step closer to your Canadian adventure.
