Second Express Entry draw

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has once again set the stage for hopeful immigrants with the Second Express Entry draw of 2024, issuing invitations to 1,040 candidates. This draw unfolded as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to shape Canada’s immigration landscape.

Latest Express Entry Draw Highlights

In this general draw, candidates experienced an anticipation-filled moment, knowing that securing an invitation hinged on meeting the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The threshold for success in this draw was set at 543, showing the competitive nature of the Express Entry system.

Express Entry Draws History, and Trends

This draw follows closely on the pattern of the January 10th draw, which welcomed 1,510 candidates in a general draw spanning all Express Entry managed programs. In that instance, candidates had to reach a minimum CRS score of 546 to qualify.

December 2023 saw a flurry of Express Entry draws, totaling seven throughout the month. Among these were two all-program draws, and five category-based selection draws.

In 2023, with 110,266 primary applicants invited in 42 rounds, the landscape transformed and set the stage for targeted draws in categories – Trade, Agriculture & Agri-Food, and more.

What to Expect in 2024 – Draws and Targets

IRCC has already set ambitious targets to welcome 110,770 new Canadian permanent residents in 2024 via the Express Entry system. As we eagerly awaited the debut of the first draw of the year 2024, our focus sharpened on knowing what lies ahead.

However, in this insightful journey of 2024, one notable shift is the departure from a predictable draw frequency. IRCC has introduced an element of uncertainty – making it challenging to anticipate the types and frequencies of Canada Express Entry draws.

To meet the ambitious 2025 admissions target of 117,500, IRCC recognizes the need to issue a substantial number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Given the intricate processing timelines for Express Entry applications—up to six months—many of these ITAs are expected to be extended throughout 2024.

CRS Scores in General vs. Category Draws in 2024

The Express Entry draws are poised to continue their evolution. For general draws, a CRS score of 510 has become the norm, with bleak prospects for lower scores. However, those with a CRS score above 520 can anticipate invitations, especially in the initial rounds starting at 530+.

On the other hand, category-based draws demand strategic insight. Trade and French proficiency emerge as leaders, backed by lower CRS cutoffs and higher chances of provincial nominations. STEM and healthcare categories, despite higher CRS cutoffs, remain promising due to increased chances of provincial nominations.
