Prince Edward Island gives out new invitations to immigration candidates

A recent draw held on May 16 saw the province of Prince Edward Island sharing more invitations in order to invite immigrants. Prince Edward Island invited a total of 104 immigration candidates under the following categories: Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact. The candidates were expected to apply to the province’s nominee program during the draw that was held on May 16.

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program, also known as PEI PNP, lets a province nominate a particular number of economic immigration candidates who have the skills to match local labor market needs. This helps provinces get access to labour that can help them move forward.

104 invitations were issued in this round. 90 of the invitations were assigned to candidates who had a registration as an Expression of Interest with the PEI PNP under the Express Entry Category, or the different streams of the Labour Impact Category.

If you are aware of how Canadian immigration works, then you must know that the Express Entry Category is closely connected to the federal Express Entry system. This system is pivotal in managing the pool of candidates for Canada’s Federal High Skilled economic-class immigration categories.

These include the Federal Skilled Worker Class, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Class. Express Entry candidates must have a separate Expression of Interest registration with the PEI PNP if they want to be considered for a provincial nomination. They are given a score out of 100. It is calculated based on factors like education, proficiency in English or French, skilled work experience and others.

There is no mandatory rule that candidates must have a job offer in Prince Edward Island in order to qualify for the nomination, but the PEI PNP is known to give preference to candidates who do.

The next Expression of Interest draw for Prince Edward Island is to be held on June 20, 2019.
