Prince Edward Island delays March Expression of Interest draw

COVID-19 has led to the postponement of the draw that was scheduled on 19th March in the province of Prince Edward Island. The province will not issue invitations for candidates as of now. People who aim to immigrate will have to wait for a while because the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) has decided to reschedule the Expression of Interest (EOI) draw altogether.

The new date has not been announced. The website states that the office is also closed at the moment because of COVID-19. However, it is known that the next scheduled EOI draw will be organized on 16th April. They have not released any updates to this information.

PEI organizes about one provincial nomination invitation round every month. The postponement can prove to be convenient for candidates because these draws take place on the basis of an anticipated schedule. The PEI has distributed 276 invitations till now in 2020 through the draws that were held in January and February. Information regarding the monthly draw has been released, and it includes results related to three PEI PNP categories.

The PEI PNP has an Express Entry Category that is aligned with the Express Entry System of the Government of Canada. This category is responsible for managing the three main economic class immigration categories in Canada. These are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

Express Entry candidates can create their individual profiles that are then submitted into a pool. All the candidates are awarded a certain Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score on the basis of human capital factors like age, education, language proficiency, and work experience.

The Labour Impact Category is aimed at foreign nationals with a job offer in PEI as long as they have support from the employer.
