Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) conducted its fifth draw of the year 2019 through Labour Market Priorities Stream to invite immigration candidates with work experience as registered nurses or psychiatric nurses. The draw conducted on October 28 saw 430 invitations being issued to target registered nurses (NOC 3012).

All the candidates invited in the latest draw had their profile registered in the Federal Express Entry System. The Express Entry system is the federal online point-based immigration system of Canada introduced by the IRCC in January 2015. The Express Entry System manages the pool of candidates for Canada’s three Federal Skilled economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Class
  • Canadian Experience Class

The Labour Market Priorities stream was introduced in August 2018, to give the province of Nova Scotia the flexibility to target certain occupations and candidates through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program. It was the first draw in the history of Labour Market Priorities Stream which specifically targeted NOC 3012 for registered nurses or registered psychiatric nurses.

Here’s a set of requirements that a candidate needs to be considered for the draw:

  • Must have a primary occupation of a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse (NOC 3012).
  • Letters of reference from employers to demonstrate they have 3 or more years of experience as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse.
  • A Canadian Language Benchmark score of 8 or higher in either English or French language.
  • Bachelor’s degree or have completed a 3 years program at a university, college, or another institute.

Candidates who receive a provincial nomination get an additional 600 CRS points in their Express Entry profile which increases their chance of receiving an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
Candidates invited in the recent draw have 30 days from the date of their invitation from the NSNP to submit their complete application. Nova Scotia has issued letters of interest to 1,576 candidates so far in 2019 through this stream.
