Canada’s New 2024 IEC Draw Invites Around 2,000 Open Work Permit Candidates

Exciting news for aspiring IEC participants! In the first week of September 2024, a total of 1,674 invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued under the International Experience Canada (IEC) program. This surge in invitations is a positive sign for those hoping to work and travel in Canada.

Top Countries Receiving Invitations

Taiwan 193 invitations
Japan 185 invitations
Chile 142 invitations
South Korea 134 invitations
Germany 110 invitations
Italy 100 invitations

While some countries have seen a higher number of invitations, there are still plenty of opportunities for candidates from other countries. With over 19,000 spots remaining for the 2024 season, there’s a good chance of receiving an invitation if you’re eligible.

Important Updates for IEC Participants

IEC Fees

  • Amount: The IEC fees for 2024 have been announced and vary depending on the program you’re participating in.
  • Working Holiday: Candidates in the Working Holiday program pay a fee of CAD $100.  
  • Young Professionals and International Co-op: Participants in these programs do not pay additional fees, but their employers must pay a CAD $230 employer compliance fee.
  • Biometrics: If you need to give biometrics, you’ll also need to pay the CAD $85 biometric fee.
  • Refunds: Fees may be refundable in certain circumstances, such as if you withdraw your application or if your employer withdraws your offer of employment.

Insurance

  • Mandatory: Having adequate health insurance is mandatory for your stay in Canada under the IEC program.  
  • Coverage: Your insurance should cover medical expenses, including prescription drugs and emergency services.  

 How to Apply for the IEC Program

  1. Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for the IEC program, which includes being between 18 and 35 years old and a citizen of a participating country.
  2. Create a Profile: Submit your profile to the IEC pool during the application period.
  3. Receive an Invitation: If selected, you’ll receive an invitation to apply for a work permit.
  4. Submit Your Application: Once you receive an invitation, you’ll have a limited time to submit your complete application.
