Canada introduces new quarantine rules for travelers

Canada introduced a set of travel restrictions on international travelers so as to contain the spread of the pandemic. However, the country also stipulated that there should be some exceptions in place. The people who are now allowed to enter Canada because of their work or study permit will be subjected to a quarantine period before anything else. It is mandatory for them to wear masks and find suitable places to reside in during the quarantine period.

The federal government is constantly updating its rules for new travelers and adding to the existing quarantine rules. Travelers who will enter Canada must be able to provide the government with a plausible quarantine plan so that they can be dismissed as a threat. It is also compulsory for them to wear a mask when they are on their way to the destination.

What do the rules state?

According to the new rules, the travelers will have to provide a confirmation that they have found a suitable place where they can self-isolate or quarantine when they reach the country. These rules will apply even if the traveler does not have symptoms of COVID-19. They should make quarantine plans and locate a place to stay when planning their journey.

The place should have access to all basic necessities like water, food, and medicine. It should be located in a place where they will have minimum contact with older people who are more susceptible to the virus. Exceptions will be allowed only if the vulnerable person allows the traveler to reside with them.

In case travelers cannot provide proof that they have access to an appropriate place where they can self-quarantine, they will be forced to stay in a hotel assigned by Canadian health officials. Asymptomatic travelers will also have to comply with the rules.
