Nigerians look at Canada for Immigration

The ban on travel of immigrant candidates from Myanmar, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Eritrea, and Sudan by U.S. President Donald Trump has significantly barred these candidates from getting their visas since 21st February.  Due to this, many Nigerian and American immigrants have been unable to reunite with their families on American grounds. Many are now looking at Canada to immigrate to.

Nigerians are the fourth most represented community in Canada. There has been a three-fold rise in the Nigerian community in Canada since 2015. It is because Canada does not consider any candidate’s origin country as an eligibility criterion. They can qualify for the economic class immigration programs and receive their Invitation to Apply (ITA) based on their CRS score.

Canada is the only which has the provision of Express Entry for immigrant candidates. To apply through this category, a candidate must first create an Express Entry Profile. Based on this profile, the candidates receive their rankings or CRS. It includes details about their age, educational background, occupation or work experience, and language proficiency. The higher the score, the higher is the probability of them getting an ITA.

Even if the CRS score of a candidate is low, candidates can apply for a provincial nomination. If they qualify for the nomination, they get an additional score of 600 on their CRS. It effectively increases their overall CRS score, increasing their chances of getting an ITA.

According to the statistics, Canada offers a straightforward process for immigration through the different streams and is open to candidates from any country and origin.
