Being proficient in multiple languages definitely provides you with numerous advantages in life. As it happens, Canadian immigration also values it if you are able to speak and write English as well as French flawlessly. Being bilingual will give you an edge as compared to other candidates since Canadians use both English and French in their daily business.

Recently, the province of Saskatchewan announced that immigration candidates will be eligible to receive more points if they are bilingual. Beginning from November 24, the candidates who are proficient in both French and English will get up to 10 extra points. This new measure will be applicable under the International Skilled Worker – Express Entry program.

How will it work?

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) already uses a point system to evaluate candidates. The applicants who manage to obtain a high score are deemed suitable for immigration to the province. The number of extra points to be awarded to bilingual candidates will vary based on their knowledge of the second language.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this new measure, you will have to register an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile under the SINP. The province uses the EOI submission to screen out ineligible candidates from the get-go. Saskatchewan uses an online application system called the OASIS to accept EOI profiles.

A number of factors determine the final score that is assigned to the candidate, namely age, language proficiency, professional experience and their relationship to the province. Language proficiency is an important factor, and now you can go into the process knowing that you are entitled to extra points if you are bilingual.
