Prince Edward Island distributes record number of invitations

Canadian provinces have not allowed the pandemic to halt immigration programs.

During a recent draw held on September 17, the province of Prince Edward Island outdid itself by issuing a record-breaking number of invitations. Prince Edward Island invited 345 economic immigration candidates in the draw, allowing them to submit their application for a provincial nomination. All successful candidates can begin working on their applications. Prince Edward Island has distributed 1,583 invitations to candidates belonging to Express Entry and Labour Impact categories over the last 12 months.

Express Entry and Labour Impact

The province had already distributed the largest number invitations to candidates under Express Entry and Labour Impact on August 20, and this time the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) also accomplished a lot. In total, 313 candidates belonging to Prince Edward Island (PEI)’s Express Entry and Labour Impact streams were on the receiving end of invitations during the draw.  The provincial nominee program has not specified the distribution pattern of these invitations.

The Express Entry Category under the PEI PNP works alongside the federal Express Entry system. All the eligible candidates are ranked on the basis of their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This score is calculated depending on their age, education, language proficiency and work experience.

The Labour Impact Category caters to foreign nationals who have already secured a valid job offer in the province. The three streams, Critical Worker, Skilled Worker, and International Graduate, fall under this category.

Entrepreneurs

Moreover, the province invited another 32 entrepreneur candidates via PEI’s Business Impact: Work Permit Stream. They were required to have an EOI score of 102 minimum. The Work Permit Stream is usually aimed at foreign entrepreneurs who want to own and operate their own business in the province.
