Canada U.S. border Will remain Closed until July 21

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has made an announcement stating that the border between U.S and Canada will continue to remain closed for non-essential travel for another month, which is 30 days.

Both countries have come to a mutual agreement about extending the border restrictions until July 21. Prime Minister Trudeau announced this decision during his daily coronavirus briefing on June 16. He said that he could confirm that Canada and the United States have agreed to extend the restrictions until July 21. The decision is important as it will help keep the people of both countries safe.

The travel restrictions were initially introduced on March 21, and since then, non-essential travel has been prohibited. The leaders of the two countries renewed the agreements monthly since then. These restrictions could help Canada and the United States to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Canada’s allowances:

Individuals who must travel for essential reasons have been and will be allowed to cross the border. Essential reasons can be related to work, study, critical infrastructure support, family reunification, or trade. Traveling for any other reason will be classified as non-essential.

Canada’s definition of essential travel includes any trip that is non-optional and non-discretionary. People who can enter Canada at the moment include Canadian citizens, temporary foreign workers, and permanent residents. International students will be allowed into the country as long as they acquired a valid study permit before March 16. Permanent residents who got their approval before March 18 will also be allowed into Canada. Recently, Canada also began to allow immediate family members to enter the country from the United States.

Canada introduced particular visa, immigration, and travel measures so that people would not face too many problems because of the pandemic. Canada has continued the processing of immigration applications.
