Alberta PNP Launches New Edit and Refund Options for Worker Expression of Interest Profiles

Worker Expression of Interest

Alberta has just made it easier for immigration candidates to manage their Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) submissions. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has introduced a new portal feature that allows active WEOI candidates to edit their profile information. This is a welcome improvement for applicants who previously had to cancel and resubmit their entire profile just to make a simple correction. Alongside the edit function, Alberta has also introduced a temporary refund policy for a specific group of affected candidates.

What Has Changed in the Alberta PNP Portal?

As of May 26, 2026, candidates with active Worker Expression of Interest submissions can now update their profile details directly through the Alberta immigration portal. This includes the ability to correct or update personal information, employment details, and other relevant profile data.

Importantly, editing a WEOI does not change or extend its original one-year validity period. The submission’s timeline remains exactly as it was when the profile was first submitted, giving candidates the confidence to make necessary corrections without worrying about unintended consequences to their standing in the selection pool.

Alberta has also introduced an option for candidates to decline stream invitations they are no longer interested in. If a candidate receives an invitation but decides not to pursue that particular stream, they can now reject it and return to the general WEOI pool within the standard 15-day invitation window. This gives applicants more control and flexibility over their immigration pathway.

The Temporary Refund Policy

For candidates who paid the Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) processing fee between April 7 and May 26, 2026, and who previously had to cancel their entire profile in order to make corrections, a temporary refund is now available. These candidates can request a refund of their original WEOI fee through the Opportunity Alberta contact form.

However, not everyone qualifies for a refund. The following candidates are not eligible:

  • Candidates who cancelled their WEOI and then submitted a new one during an active invitation period.
  • Candidates who cancelled their WEOI solely to update their Express Entry profile (Express Entry profile updates are not eligible for a refund).

If you are unsure whether you qualify, contacting Opportunity Alberta directly is the best course of action.

Why This Update Matters for Candidates

Before this update, the only way to correct an error in a WEOI submission was to cancel the entire profile and start from scratch. This was not only inconvenient but potentially costly, since candidates lost their processing fees and had to re-enter the selection pool. For applicants who discovered a mistake after submitting their profile, the stakes were high.

The ability to edit a profile directly addresses this problem. It reduces unnecessary cancellations, saves money for applicants, and streamlines the overall application process. It also ensures that AAIP has access to more accurate and up-to-date candidate profiles when conducting draws, which benefits both the province and the applicants.

What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is Alberta’s Provincial Nominee Program. It allows the province to nominate skilled workers, international graduates, and semi-skilled workers in certain sectors to become permanent residents of Canada. Candidates who receive a provincial nomination through AAIP receive an additional 600 points added to their Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System score, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply in a subsequent draw.

Alberta’s Worker stream under AAIP is particularly popular among temporary foreign workers already living and working in the province. The Worker Expression of Interest process is how these candidates express their interest in receiving a nomination from Alberta PNP.

Next Steps for AAIP Candidates

If you have an active WEOI and need to make changes to your profile, log into the Alberta immigration portal and take advantage of the new edit function. If you believe you are eligible for a refund under the temporary policy, complete the Opportunity Alberta contact form as soon as possible.
