Quick Recap of Express Entry Draws – French Language Category

In a category-based selection draw for French-speaking candidates, the IRCC welcomed 3,800 applicants on July 11, 2023. They demanded a CRS score of at least 375 which was by far the lowest CRS score for any Express Entry draw this year. Prior to this draw, on July 7, a total of 2,300 invites were sent out to Express Entry applicants who had a CRS of at least 439.

On May 31, IRCC unveiled new category-based selection criteria emphasizing particular qualities rather than just a high CRS score. Candidates for Express Entry now fall into six additional categories: Jobs in the healthcare and STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Strong French language skills, Transportation, Agriculture and agri-food, and Trades like carpenters, plumbers, and contractors. These groups were selected to help fill critical labor market gaps in Canada and to advance the use of French outside of Quebec.
