When it comes to immigration, Canada has emerged as one of the most popular destinations in the last decade. More and more international applicants are choosing Canada as their home or choice because of the numerous advantages provided by the country.

Moreover, Canada is known to be friendly towards new immigrants, which makes integration into society much easier. The Atlantic province of Nova Scotia witnessed the fastest growth in a year since 1972, and that can be attributed to the growing popularity of Canada as an immigrant destination.

Nova Scotia has experienced record-breaking population growth because of interprovincial migrants and immigrants. According to Statistics Canada, the population of the Atlantic Province has grown by 12,339 residents between the period of 1st October 2018 and 1st October 2019. The number is inclusive of the 7,165 immigrants who arrived in Nova Scotia during this 12-month period. This 1.28 percent growth is Nova Scotia’s fastest population increase across a 12-month period since the year 1972. As a result, Nova Scotia’s population has risen to a record 976,768, as measured on 1st October 2019.

The growth in population between 1st July and 1st October in 2019 also set up a new record for the province in a three-month stretch. In the third quarter of 2019, Nova Scotia’s population rose by 5,373 people. 2,471 immigrants made their way into the province during this time.

According to the Government of Nova Scotia, this marked the highest immigration in a quarter on the basis of records that can be dated back all the way to the Second World War. Interprovincial migrants stood for 1,090 of the new residents in Nova Scotia. The province’s government further clarified that it was the 16th consecutive quarter that Nova Scotia had seen positive net interprovincial migration.
