Prince Edward Island Unveils $10M Initiative to Expand Affordable Rental Housing

In a move to address the growing demand for affordable housing, the Prince Edward Island government has launched a $10 million pilot program aimed at boosting the availability of permanently affordable rental units throughout the province. The Community Housing Expansion Pilot, unveiled as part of the 2024-2025 operating budget, will support the non-profit and co-operative housing sector in expanding their housing portfolios through acquisitions and new construction projects.

This innovative initiative aims to facilitate the acquisition of 120 units in the current fiscal year, while simultaneously laying the groundwork for future construction and acquisition efforts.
