Prince Edward Island issues invitations to 135 immigration candidates in Expression of Interest draw

Canada is trying to boost the country’s immigration and allow for the entry of more skilled permanent residents who can make up for the shortage of labor in different industries. The provinces are playing their role in welcoming new immigrants. Prince Edward Island recently issued 135 new invitations and distributed them among immigration candidates during a draw that was held on 18th July.

The draw was held with candidates from the Express Entry, Business Impact, and Labour Impact categories. The province’s immigrant nominee program, also called the PEI PNP, issued the invitations encouraging the candidates to apply for provincial nomination.

Prince Edward Island, or PEI, is among the nine Canadian provinces which are a part of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The PNP is designed to let participating provinces nominate skilled foreign workers for permanent residence in Canada. The program also extends to international graduates and entrepreneurs who can also receive nominations. The PEI PNP’s Express Entry category is closely associated with the federal Express Entry system.

The province is able to nominate candidates from streams such as the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Class, who will then be able to submit their applications for permanent residence. When a candidate gets a provincial nomination under the federal Express Entry system, he or she will have 600 extra points added to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This will effectively cement their chance of getting an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

The PEI’s Labour Impact Category, however, is does not work in tandem with the Express Entry system. It can be divided into the following streams: Skilled Workers, Critical Workers, and International Graduates. The candidates should be working in PEI or have an eligible job offer in the province.
