Welcome back! We’re here with some bonus news updates for your Canadian immigration journey.

British Columbia Seeks Tech Talent and More!

First up, we have exciting news for those eyeing British Columbia! On May 7th, 2024, the province conducted a draw through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). This draw targeted skilled professionals in various in-demand sectors.

The BCPNP invited a total of 81 candidates, with a focus on tech workers (41 invitations), early childhood educators (11 invitations), healthcare professionals (12 invitations), construction workers (12 invitations), and even those working in veterinary care (up to 5 invitations). The minimum scores for these draws ranged from 100 to 120 points.

This is a great opportunity for skilled professionals in these fields to potentially gain a pathway to permanent residence in British Columbia. With over 3,000 invitations already issued this year, the BCPNP is actively seeking talent to contribute to the province’s economic growth.

Canada Offers Support to Hong Kong Permanent Residence Applicants

Shifting gears, we have some significant news for those applying for permanent residence in Canada from Hong Kong. On May 7th, 2024, the Canadian government announced a new policy to support Hong Kong residents navigating the immigration process.

This new policy allows applicants under specific streams of the Hong Kong permanent residence program to extend their temporary status in Canada while their applications are being processed. Starting May 27th, 2024, eligible applicants under Stream A (in-Canada graduates) or Stream B (Canadian work experience) can apply for an open work permit.

These open work permits will be valid for those who held a valid work or study permit in Canada within the past three years. This policy will be in effect for five years, offering some much-needed stability for Hong Kong residents while their permanent residence applications are being reviewed.

This demonstrates Canada’s commitment to adapting its immigration programs to address the needs of individuals from Hong Kong in the current climate.
