Manitoba has issued and distributed 435 invitations amongst candidates who are aiming to apply for provincial nominations in January. Skilled workers in Manitoba, international student graduates, and workers from abroad were invited so they could apply for a provincial nomination on 17th January. This would help them on their path to permanent residence. The MPNP or Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program issued a sum total of 249 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) and distributed them amongst candidates belonging to three streams, namely Skilled Workers in Manitoba, International Education Stream and Skilled Workers Overseas.

The invitations were distributed in the following pattern:

  • Skilled Workers Overseas: 34
  • Skilled Workers in Manitoba: 192
  • International Education Stream: 23

The event was Manitoba’s 81st draw. The program can be dated back to April 2014, and it has mostly been a success. 22 of the 249 invitations that were issued in Manitoba’s latest draw were given to candidates in the Express Entry pool. The Express Entry system forms the backbone of Canadian immigration and manages the pool of candidates for the Economic-Class immigration categories of the Federal Skilled Trades Program, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Canadian Experience Class. The Express Entry candidates who get a provincial nomination are given an extra 600 CRS point that can give them an effective guarantee of an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

The Express Entry candidates are assigned a score on the basis of the Comprehensive Ranking System, which takes human capital factors like work experience, age, education, and language fluency. The candidates with the highest scores are then given invitations allowing them to apply for permanent residence in Canada through regular draws. They had to submit an Expression of Interest to the MPNP separately.
