Work And Study Permit in Canada

Foreign nationals who are currently staying in Canada and have received their work or study approval will now have their permits sent to them directly by mail. This is an excellent initiative during this pandemic when people are struggling to complete immigration processes.

The study and work permit applicants do not have to go to the border in order to activate their permits if they have already received their approval letters. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has opened up a web form to accept requests from candidates who have secured their Letter of Introductions (LOIs) but are unable to travel to a port of entry because of restrictions.

Under this new system, they will be able to claim their letters from their own house. This initiative will also have a positive effect for people who received their LOI through the International Experience Canada program.

What was the problem?

The travel restrictions imposed by Canada because of the pandemic have left many LOI holders in an awkward position. They have been approved by the government to continue their work or studies, but they cannot get their permits. Until this new measure was taken by the government, they had no choice but to travel to the port in order to claim their permits. The problem was that their journey to a port of entry did not fall under the guidelines of essential travel.

What should you do?

Now, candidates will be able to get their work or study permit without having to break any travel restrictions. They will have the legal right to start working or studying. If you are interested in receiving your permit by mail, you can submit a request via the IRCC website. This option will be available until March 31, 2021.
