New Express Entry draw issues 3,500 invitations for Canadian permanent residence

Canada had distributed 10,300 invitations till now this year to Express Entry candidates who want to apply for permanent residence. The Government of Canada issued a sum total of 3,500 invitations-to-apply for candidates aiming for Canadian permanent residence during a draw that was held on 5th February. The latest invitation round recorded a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 472. It marked an increase of a point as compared to the previous draw that was held on 22nd January.

The Express Entry system is the spine of the Canadian immigration system, and it is in charge of the pool of candidates belonging to three of Canada’s primary skilled labor immigration categories. The candidates are given ranks on the basis of the score they get via the Comprehensive Ranking System. Factors like age, skilled work experience, education, and language proficiency are taken into account when evaluating the score.

The candidates do not necessarily need a job offer so as to get an Express Entry invitation to apply (ITA). However, extra points are given if a candidate has a job offer. A fixed number of candidates with the highest ranks are then awarded invitations-to-apply for permanent residence via the regular draws.

The Government of Canada usually takes six months to process permanent residence applications that are sent through the Express Entry system. With the invitation round of 5th February, the total number of ITAs that have been issued this year has risen to 10,300.

The target set for new permanent resident admissions via the three federal high-skilled programs might rise to 85,800 ITAs in 2020 and 88,800 in 2021. The target for the country’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) might increase to 67,800 in 2020 and then 71,300 in 2021. Some Canadian provinces and territories have “enhanced” PNP streams that are associated with the Express Entry system.
