British Columbia organizes provincial nominee program draw and makes changes to the eligibility requirements for the entrepreneur category
The immigration candidates in the entrepreneur category will no longer have to fulfill a language requirement. However, they will also not have the chance to include key staff.
British Columbia has issued invitations to 284 candidates allowing them to submit their applications for a provincial nomination that would boost their chance of getting permanent residence. The province also introduced two vital changes in relation to immigrant entrepreneurs.
The BC PNP or the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program distributed invitations amongst candidates in the categories of Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC. The Skills Immigration Category is aimed at skilled and semi-skilled workers who have occupations that are in high demand in British Columbia. For both categories, candidates have to register through the province’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Eligible candidates are provided with a score on the basis of certain factors like their location in the province, education level, language fluency, offer of employment, and wage. A recent invitation round saw the minimum score requirements to be between 85 and 110.
BC PNP is known to issue invitations almost every week. The province has already set out 585 invitations in 2020. Most of them went to candidates belonging to the Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC categories.
The amendments to the Entrepreneur Immigration Base Category were put into effect from 29th January, and they will not affect existing applications. The province has set the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) requirement to be level 4 or higher for candidates who want to qualify.
According to the province, these changes are being implemented in order to ensure better integration of immigrants into the Canadian community. Moreover, it will resemble the language requirement stated by the Entrepreneur Immigration Regional Pilot.
