Digital Platform Modernization

The Government of Canada is set to transform the immigrant experience through its Digital Platform Modernization (DPM). This cutting-edge platform promises to reshape immigration services, introducing a seamless online single window, increased automation, and a more human-centric approach. The ultimate goal is to accelerate processing, enhance program integrity, and simplify the immigration journey for individuals and families. Here’s a closer look at the strategic actions the government is taking to achieve these transformative objectives:

1. Reducing Wait Times: Initiatives are underway to slash wait times and elevate service standards. This involves boosting operational capacity, leveraging digital tools, and aligning application intake with available spaces. Additionally, expanding the list of partial visa-exempt countries and prioritizing visa processing for major events aim to facilitate tourism and international conferences.

2. IRPA Reviewed: A comprehensive review of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) is in progress to assess the need for legislative amendments. This ensures alignment with the evolving goals of the immigration system. Tackling financial problems for international students, particularly those from francophone communities in sub-Saharan Africa, stands as a prime objective, with a dedicated pilot program in development.

3. Strengthening Collaborations: Partnerships with employers and institutions dependent on immigration will be reinforced through initiatives such as Letter of Acceptance (LOA) Verification, the Recognized Institutions Framework, and the Recognized Employer Pilot. These measures aim to streamline processes, enhance protections for foreign nationals, and address labor shortages.

4. Communication Strategies: Establishing an advisory council of newcomers to guide policy development, enhancing the accessibility of information on the IRCC website, and exploring solutions to potential barriers faced by families navigating the immigration system are key focus areas.

5. User-Friendly Applications: The development of a modern, digital, and data-driven Client Experience Platform will revolutionize the online portal for candidates, offering a more positive and personalized experience. Efforts to simplify obtaining or renewing passports for Canadians and newcomers are also underway.

6. Reconciliation in Action: In alignment with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan, the government aims to address migration challenges faced by Native Peoples divided by international borders. A new Citizenship guide reflecting the history of systemic racism and discrimination faced by Native Peoples is set to be launched, responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 93.
